Holiday Craft Show Update

Kerry of Kerry Hawkins Photography

I had a great time hanging out with fellow Boston Handmaders, Colleen, Marla and Lucie at this craft show. The crowd of people was steady despite the cold rain. I was able to represent Vintage by Crystal at the show. Her items brought lots of giggles and smiles to everybody who stopped by to look at
her work.

There was a wide variety of vendors, live music and plenty of treats for sale. I was impressed by the quality of art and handmade goods at this show. But, also the organizers of this show were professional, welcoming and helpful. I had lots of help loading my car at the end of the day, which was key.

With every craft fair I have been learning what sells, setting up my displays better, items to feature, etc. It always gives me ideas on what to change, improve or new items explore. I love having the company of Boston Handmaders at these shows, they have always made it fun.

Smaller Works at Galatea Fine Art

by Chris of Christine Marie Art

Above are three of my digital monoprints on display through the month of December at Galatea Fine Art gallery, in its "Smaller Works" exhibit. Galatea is the latest cooperative artist gallery in Boston's SoWa district.

The gallery is filled with works of contemporary art 16" or less, offered throughout the holiday season on a cash and carry basis. Paintings, photography, collage, assemblage and more grace the walls, along with a variety of prints and art cards perfect for gift-giving.

The Opening Reception for "Smaller Works" was held December 4 on an unusually warm December evening during SoWa's First Fridays when surrounding galleries stay open late, and artists open their studios to visitors. We had quite a crowd and seem to be off to a great start!

The images shown here were taken the day after the opening, when I could actually get a shot of some of the art. In all there are 50 artists participating, among which I have many new favorites.

Holiday Happenings

by Nicole of 83west

With the holiday season upon us (and passing all too quickly), I've been busy working in the studio on new items for the shop. My hope was to create unique (and many one-of-a-kind) items to suit many gift-giving needs while keeping the current financial situation in mind. Items range from wine totes and small accessories to larger bags.

Be sure to check out all of the Boston Handmade shops for your gift giving needs this holiday season.

Happy Holidays!

New Kiln

by Brooke Pickering of Bancroft Studios

She Has Arrived!

It’s been a long and bumpy road but early last week my brand new kiln made her long awaited entrance. After many false starts and a manufacturer/model change mid way through the process, I am thrilled that my new production space finally has the equipment to produce

Never having owned such a machine I was a bit intimidated by the idea of assembly/set-up/and test firing….. luckily my Fed-Ex guy took pity on me and actually brought her up to my 2nd floor studio space via freight elevator instead of just dumping the 600 lb beast on the loading dock as his paperwork specified!

Next step was assembly and with the help of a handy CD I was able to spare myself the pounding headache that would sure have followed a sluggish read through the colossal manual.

So all this week in goes the glazed pieces and out come my blue lobsters, crabs, shells and seaweed. I’m back in business and not a moment to soon!
