Jessica Burko/Reclaimed to You, detail of Beside/Beneath

Happy Mother's day everyone! This is my very first Mother's Day and I am delighted to celebrate it with my husband and my 8-month old son. It's definitely been challenging to continue working as an artist and as an arts marketer while growing into my new role as "Mommy" but I have been really lucky to be surrounded by other artist-Moms in Boston Handmade, and seeing how everyone makes it work has been inspiring to me. Check out these items made by Boston Handmade Moms:
Cozy Cottage Creations, Needle Felted Apples, sold as a set of 8 with a felted bowl

Elizabeth Brennick Designs, Poppy Hair Clips in a variety of colors

Cristina Hurley, My Mom's Favorite , Large Lotus Necklace with Peridot

Starting a handmade wedding off right!

by Katy Brown of muchacha K handmade

Love certainly seems to be in the air here in the BH galaxy, and my life is no exception. My sweetie, Scott, and I are getting married this July 24th. When he asked me to marry him his next question was "What kind of ring would you like, because I know you, and I know you want something handmade and unique and I want you to have exactly what you want.". He also asked if I might know someone that I would LOVE to have make my ring...and my answer was YEEEESSSSS to getting married AND to the ring question!

Heather Wang is one of my very favorite local jewelers. She works out of the Western Ave Studios in Lowell, MA.

I know that I'm not really a "diamond" girl, so I was excited to be able to have something made that is beautiful but non-traditional: Worthy of an engagement, but not a typical engagement ring. When I went to talk to Heather, I told her that I was thinking about non-diamond stones and thought that a deep red might be perfect for me. It's a color that never goes out of style for me, one that I always come back to. She excitedly popped up and grabbed some gorgeous garnets that she had on hand...and a ring was born!

Heather drew great possibilities for me to think about and choose from and this was the ring that came out of that process. And because it's not a diamond, it was a great option for a couple that has already basically taken a vow of poverty by agreeing to marry each other (he's a musician and me, well, I'm me, haha).

In my mind, this was a perfect way to start off the planning of a wedding that will surely incorporate many other handmade elements, or locally purchased ones.

23rd Annual Sheepshearing Festival, Gore Place

by Kerry of Khawkinspghoto

I went to the Sheep Shearing Festival at Gore place in Waltham with my friend Jaye. We hung out with friends and fellow artist, Nancy and her husband, Scott. The sheep shearing was really cool. It was incredible how much wool comes off the sheep. He used huge shears to cute off the wool and methodically worked his way around the animal. Hopefully, the sheep felt cool after this was done.

One of the reasons, we attended this festival was to check out the craft show that took place there. Fellow Boston Handmader, Bexx Caswell of White Sparrow Bindery was showing their beautiful books. (above photo).
