Black and White

By Betsy of Stonehouse Studio

Just as nothing in life is either black or white, my new line of jewelry also has nuances and undertones. The white is a luminous, creamy mixture of polymer clay and the black has an indigo and gray crazing, just like old porcelain.

I grew up overseas, and my global upbringing is reflected in my work. This latest line has an Asian feel to it. When I was about ten and living in the Philippines, I remember my Mom taking a sumi-e class (Japanese brush stroke painting). I was intrigued even then by how a few brushstrokes with black ink could communicate the essence of an image. I've tried to capture that simplicity in this new line of polymer and sterling silver jewelry.
