The Perfect Gift
by Nancy of nancyrosetta
What do you give the person who has everything? Or rather, the person who gets what he wants the minute he knows he wants it?
A commissioned portrait of course!
I found artist Sharie of ShariesCraftworld through a post on Regretsy(specifically this one), and the minute I read it, I knew I had to have one as well. Part folk art, part cartoon, and totally 3D, Sharie really knows how to make people smile with her art. Her medium is polymer clay and lots of shellac, and lots of love (I made that up, but I feel the love, so I said it).

Is it fair to give your husband something that you want for his birthday? It is when you get a reaction like this! <---click that to see 43 seconds of fantastic reaction!
Not only do I LOVE this portrait, Scott says its one of the best gifts he's ever received! The second we got home from his Birthday Dinner Party he hung it up right away! Thanks Sharie!

And this is the finished portrait.

The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl
by Lucie of Lucie Wicker Photography
From April 15 until Sept 5, 2011, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston will be exhibiting works of art created using or inspired by vinyl records. The ICA is the first museum to host an exhibit focused on vinyl and I'm really looking forward to checking it out. 41 artists from all over the world created the 99 pieces on display. This was taken from the ICA website:"Bringing together artists from around the world who have worked with records as their subject or medium, this groundbreaking exhibition examines the record's transformative power from the 1960s to the present.
Through sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, photography, sound work, video and performance, The Record combines contemporary art with outsider art, audio with visual, and fine art with popular culture."
Who wants to go?!
