Working in a medium that hinges on the the latest fashion trends (accessories make the outfit!) I spend a fair amount of time keeping on top of the seasons styles. For jewelry, I find color to be an important aspect-keep in mind people usually want earrings or a bracelet to match their current outfits. Fire Mountain Gems offers a fashion color forecast guide into 2010 for the fall/winter and spring/summer seasons: an incredible reference tool! Thinking about where your customer base shops is important, too - for me, Urban Outfitters, H&M and Mint Julep are where its at. Check out the stores, their websites and keep your eyes peeled for new trends, color combinations and unusual pairings that could inspire your own designs (if low cut tops seem to be the trend than maybe long necklaces or high fitting chokers would pair well). Lastly, even in the indie fashion world, haute couture and off the rack mainstream design is always a source of admiration.
