What We Like To Listen To In The Studio

By Beth of Elizabeth Brennick Designs

I asked the members of Boston Handmade "Do you jam out while creating?" Oh and we do! Here's what some of us listen to while in the studio:

Allison of Fraske Designs: I am the kind of person who puts her music on shuffle mode a lot, but when I get in the creative zone, I often resort to either one artist or one type of music. Sometimes I am in an ambient mood, other times I want some Motown, sometimes I just need some good rock and roll! Artists that tend to remain near the top of my play lists are Superdrag, Camera Obscura, The Pixies, and The Old 97's.
"Superdrag"

Beth of Elizabeth Brennick Designs: I listen to all genres of music from past decades to current. When I step into my studio I put my itunes on and horribly sing to The Cranberries, Coldplay, Fleetwood Mac, Billie Holiday, and Death Cab For Cutie.
"The Cranberries"

Jessica of Reclaimed To You: What I listen to in my studio really depends on the type of project I'm working on. If it is something where I am really considering the inner meaning of a piece, the theme of a series, I tend to listen to more mellow music like Seal or Beth Orton. If I am doing something more physical like building a structure for a piece I'll listen to more upbeat music like The Presidents of The United States of America or They Might Be Giants. In between there are my old radio standbys NPR and WERS.
"Beth Orton"

Kirsten of Kirsten Bassion: National Public Radio all the time! They are like my best friends while I work...I know them all by name and have the whole schedule memorized...total junky!
Kerry of Kerry Hawkins Photography: Kerry like Kirsten also enjoys listening to NPR. She also listens to in the morning is BBC where she gets a lot of information.
Alicia & Tony of Chroma Lab: Tony's band of the moment is the Harlem Shakes, and he likes listening to the Pixies, too. If Alicia gets control of the iPod, it's always 60s girl groups like Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, or Stevie Wonder. Both of us can always agree on Talking Heads, and we like to listen to This American Life and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, too.
"Harlem Shakes"

Mimi of Mimi Kirchner: "For many years I have listened to audio books while I work. I used to listen to classics and great books, now mostly what I like to call audio fluff :-) I have recently discovered podcasts and I am tracking down all sorts of goodies to listen to. I recently listened to all the podcasts on Craftypod."
