New Year, New Stuff

By: Sedruola Maruska of Yarn Obsession

2009 is finally here with all it's promise and purpose! Just like a sunrise with the promise of a new day, I'm facing 2009 with hope and motivation to create something different for my shop, myself and my family. We hear all the time how it's up to each of us to make a difference for ourselves, but we don't often believe. I've become a big believer as I've watched how our family goals have allowed us to do things we never thought possible. So, in 2009, I'm approaching my business goals in the same way.

It starts with organization. When I re-started my business in January of 2008, I did so because I had time on the commuter rail to knit and crochet again. As time went on, I began throwing things around and together just to "keep up" with my days and activities. I no longer have a commute, so I've taken the time to organize my supplies, paperwork and projects.

However, with new organization must come the new projects! For me, that is the most exciting thing, because that's when I get to create. It's the reason I have my shop, and the why I'm busying myself with organization. New projects are "new blood" into my venture and a new opportunity to challenge myself and offer more varied items to my customers.

What can you expect from Yarn Obsession this year? I'm discontinuing a few items that I feel have run their course, introducing "sets" into my shop to give each item more value, and designing larger more unique and diverse pieces. Overall, we're getting an overhaul.

It's 2009, my families goals are tied into my success as a business owner so I'm moving forward with hope and motivation. Happy New Year!
