My Favorite Local Yarn Shops

Over the years, I've visited many many small local yarn shops in the area, and have developed a few favorites. These are the ones that I'll go to first and foremost when I'm in need of (or in the mood for) more yarn. In no particular order.....

1. Wild & Woolly, 7A Meriam St., Lexington MA - To me, this shop is pure joy as it would be expressed in yarn. They have color like you wouldn't believe. If I've got a new project swirling around in my head and am looking for a yarn color I'm not sure exists, I go here. Plus, just when you think they might not have what you're looking for, one of their sales staff miraculously presents it to you in the most pleasant of ways.

2. In Stitches, 454 Boston Post Road, Weston, MA - Entering this shop is like becoming an explorer in a glorious yarn cave. It's room after room of yarn, and every turn of the corner makes you ooh and ah with the excitement of discovery. They are also big on color, but it's the textures that really pulls me in here. Lots and lots of unusual fiber. I will go here just to wander and be inspired. Plus, as an added bonus, the astonishingly talented fiber artist and all-around fantastic person, Jodi Colella teaches knitting workshops here. All artists and fiber enthusiasts should know her - she's amazing.

3. Abbott Yarn Shoppe, 160 Cabot St., Beverly MA - Whenever I'm on the North Shore, I have to make a stop here. This shop is so cute and quaint, it's hard to believe they actually have everything I need in their small space. Sometimes I think someone snuck into my attic to see my stash, then stocked up on all my favorite yarns. They also have THE BEST PRICES. Whenever I'm buying lots different colors of Lamb's Pride for my children's knitting class, I go here. Plus - they have the kindest and
friendliest people working there. Can't beat that combination.

4. The Woolpack, 676 Great Road, Littleton MA - I never would have gone here if it weren't close to my parents house, and forever grateful that I did. Now most trips to my parent's house include a stop in here first. It's well worth the trip to the area. Besides having everything you'd need and want in a yarn shop, they also have by far the most helpful staff, whether it be looking for a particular yarn, questions about patterns, or even winding your hank into a ball. And they even sell wool roving, woo hoo! That to me is fiber paradise.
